Where's The Respect?

“"Where's the Respect?" stands as an uncompromising, deeply introspective centerpiece from the album Bonkano. Written, composed, and produced by Ali Boubacar Bonkano, the track functions as an explicit declaration of independence and a direct response to the friction, jealousy, and negative pressures encountered during professional growth. Driven by a calculated 84 to 88 BPM tempo, an 808 kick drum, metallic watch tick percussion, and classical piano loops, the production builds a precise, calculated atmosphere. Through candid, unfiltered lyrics, the track explores the daily challenges of a creative professional who is consistently forced to deal with skepticism, outside noise, and peer rivalry within the fashion industry. Instead of faltering, the narrative details the internal drive required to clear the board and maintain a lasting legacy despite external obstacles. Featuring vocal arrangements by Bima Bama, the track contrasts personal ambition with an often shallow environment where the struggle for recognition can be exhausting, yet remains a necessary part of the journey to success. Rather than focusing solely on friction, the song highlights that while many may hope for or pray on a downfall, the reality for Ali Boubacar Bonkano is a story of resilience and constant forward momentum. By addressing these tensions head-on, the work asserts a commanding presence, refusing to be silenced or sidelined by those who do not understand the level of commitment required to reach the top. Ultimately, "Where's the Respect?" serves as both a demand for professional recognition and a powerful statement on the realities of the runway, grounding the listener in the true, often invisible labor that powers the industry.”
